The
oil from Vistive™ soybeans is in demand from food
companies. That’s why there has never
been a better time for you to plant and grow Vistive
low-linolenic soybeans. You can benefit from this
exclusive offer to North American Soybean Growers by growing Vistive beans to capitalize on the increasing demand from
food companies and the exciting premiums of up to 60 cents per bushel. This
market presents you an exciting opportunity that is being driven by the U.S.
Consumer who is seeking better dietary options.
The Consumer has encouraged more food companies to seek a bigger supply
of Vistive Soybeans. But more important, Vistive low-lin beans
provide added value to North American farmers to ensure that your beans remain
one of the world’s most popular agricultural products.
A
golden marketing opportunity
It’s
an exciting time for soybean growers. Consumers are demanding healthier food
choices, and food manufacturers are rushing to meet the demand. In fact, more
than 100 companies, including Kelloggs, already have banned trans
fats from their products. They are now using food grade oils processed from Vistive
beans, which feature a low-linolenic trait developed by Monsanto. And that has
created one of the most profitable new markets for soybean growers we’ve seen.
Trans fats result when oil from commodity
soybeans is hydrogenated to reduce linolenic acid during processing. But oil
from Vistive low-lin soybeans doesn’t require hydrogenation. It typically
contains less than 3 percent linolenic acid as compared to 8 percent for
conventional soybeans. That makes Vistive beans the healthier choice from the start.
There are no added processing costs, plus no added
costs associated with cultivation or harvesting practices.
What
we are seeing is the start of a major shift in the soybean market. For years,
the demand for hydrogenated oil from conventional beans has been shrinking with
a loss of sales to more expensive canola, palm, olive and other food grade
oils. But low-lin beans provide oil that is both non-hydrogenated and
cost-effective -- exactly what processors, food manufacturers, and consumers
are looking for. Now, the challenge is to meet the demand and ensure that
farmers capture their share of this growing market. Growers who are ready with
Vistive beans will surely profit.
Premiums
deliver extra money at harvest
To
increase the availability of low-lin beans, processors have teamed up with
Monsanto to offer buyer premiums, from 50 cents to 60 cents, on every bushel of
Vistive beans. You can expect that cash benefit to continue. Since 2005,
production dedicated to Vistive beans has gone from 100,000 acres to
approximately 1.5 million acres in 2007. Acreage will continue to increase. To
date, Vistive beans have been grown in Iowa, Indiana, Illinois, Minnesota,
South Dakota, Nebraska, Missouri, Kentucky, Michigan, Ohio, Delaware and
Maryland. Even greater geographic coverage is expected. Click on Vistive Soybeans

Vistive soybeans are offered for sale only in
the United States and Canada. For North American farmers, they present an exclusive
opportunity to build and own a profitable market. Vistive
low-lin soybeans provide yields that are comparable
to traditional soybeans, plus the potential for high premiums. Learn more about the value that Vistive Soybeans could add by going to the Vistive Value Calculator.
Strong
performance and yield potential
In
2007, Growers reported strong yields with Vistive beans that were comparable or
better than conventional soybeans. Fielder’s
Choice Direct brand NG3030NRV was introduced for planting in the 2008 Crop
Year. This Vistive soybean is an early group lll product that combines soybean cyst nematode with low linolenic acid. It’s
a moderately tall plant type with excellent emergence and standability. NG3030NRV also offers good tolerance to
sudden death syndrome, frog eye and has excellent stress tolerance. This Vistive bean
is an excellent choice for no-till cropping systems.
NG3030NRV demonstrated superior yield performance
over conventional and competitive low-linolenic
soybeans in the 2007 Monsanto On Farm Trials. NG3030NRV
provided yield advantages over both competitive conventional soybeans and
competitive low-linolenic soybeans. The following
data highlights the performance of NG3030NRV from Fielder’s Choice:
Geography (Number of Plots)
Variety Overall (44) West (18) East (26) Low-Lin/Conventional
NG3030NRV 52.4 53.7

Vistive beans are planted at the same rate and
harvested at the same time. And they are Roundup Ready®, so you can treat them
the way you treat all of your fields. From a management standpoint, it’s
win-win. The only difference for growers is that planters must be cleaned out before
Vistive beans are planted and segregated at harvest. It’s essential that
Vistive beans are kept separate to meet processor quality requirements. Expect
them to be tested for linolenic acid content once you reach your processing
facility.
You
will find most of the growth characteristics you need in varieties that feature
the Vistive trait. When selecting seed, start with the
proven agronomics for your farm, then add on the Vistive trait for your
portfolio. Call your Fielder’s Choice Seed Consultant at 1-800-321-3177 to help

Looking
ahead to new markets
The
Vistive low-lin bean is the first of many food quality traits under
development. Upcoming traits may include:
·
High-stearate oil for food products
that require solid fat, such as margarine and shortening,
·
Low saturates plus mid-oleic plus
low-linolenic. Soy oil that combines lower saturated fats, lower trans fats and improved stability.
·
Omega-3 enhanced oils that provide an
environmentally sustainable, economical source of omega-rich foods.
Watch
for these upcoming traits that will continue to open new markets to growers.
And get ready for a world of new opportunities with processor-preferred crops
in your operation. To get involved in
